Role of DJ-1 in Parkinsons disease
DJ-1 is a gene associated with familial PD. The mechanisms by which DJ-1 acts is unknown, however. Using systems approaches, we identified two novel potential targets of DJ-1, a paraoxonase members PON2 and VHL. Both targets are of interest since they have the potential to affect ROS levels or induce genes with known affects on survival such as HIF. The effects of DJ-1 on these and other targets will be dicussed in situations relevant to Parkinsons disease.
