Functional and physical interactions in the ER

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is the site of secretory protein folding and quality control. Many protein trafficking diseases such as cystic fibrosis, result from the recognition of mutant but otherwise functional proteins in the ER. Together with Michael Hallett’s lab we have established a curated database termed HERA of ER resident and associated proteins http://www.mcb.mcgill.ca/~hera , and we have produced some testable models of ER functions. I will describe some our experimental results on protein complexes, and the manipulation of the ER quality control pathways.
