In this presentation I will present how I think bioinformatics can contribute to many of the goals and challenges of Systems Biology. Computational approaches are necessary and complementary to many of the wet-laboratory systems analysis that are currently on-going worldwide. To develop these ideas and approaches I will be using example from my laboratory, example of tool development for genome annotation; new algorithm for gene-finding algorithms; the development of data warehouse for sequences, interactions and ontologies as well as the integration of interaction databases data so that it can be usefully integrated into pathways and networks. I will conclude with some ideas on how this scientific activity needs to move forward to maximize the limited resources that are currently available.
