Kristin Baetz, Ph.D.

Canada Research Chair in Functional and Chemical Genomics.

kbaetz@uottawa.ca

Kristin received her Ph.D. in Medical and Molecular Genetics from the University of Toronto where she worked in Dr. Brenda Andrew’s lab studying the G1 transcription factor complex SBF in the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae Her postdoctoral fellowship was at the University of British Columbia with Dr. Phil Hieter where she developed and utilized a variety of yeast functional and chemical genomic screens to identify proteins that are required for faithful chromosome segregation. Kristin also utilizes yeast as a platform for drug mode of action. Kristin is a member of the Ottawa Institute of Systems Biology and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Ottawa.

Leslie Mitchell, M.Sc.

Graduate Student

lmitc059@uottawa.ca

Leslie has a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from the University of Waterloo and a M.Sc. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Simon Fraser University. Leslie is dissecting the cellular roles and molecular mechanisms of the enzyme complex NuA4.

Sharon Berthelet, B.M.Sc.

Graduate Student

sbert060@uottawa.ca

Sharon received her B.M.Sc. in Biochemistry at the University of Western Ontario.  As a master's candidate, Sharon is using an integrative genomics and proteomics approach to systematically identify the diverse cellular processes requiring Aft1p in budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Nazir Kabbani, B.Sc.

Graduate Student

nadkabbani@gmail.com

Nazir has a B.Sc. in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from Carleton University and is enjoying working on his M.Sc. in Biochemistry here at the University of Ottawa. Nazir is studying proteomic noise and has been instrumental in developing the Baetz Lab website.

Maria Gerdes, B.Sc.

Technican

mgerdes@uottawa.ca

Maria obtained her BSc in Biology from Concordia University in Montreal.  She worked nine years at the Montreal Children’s Hospital in a clinical diagnostic lab, but decided that she preferred to work in research.  She worked several years at the IRCM and at UC Berkeley where she was in charge of taking care of the lab’s transgenic mouse colony and as lab manager.  Maria is the lab manager, and works on a variety of projects.

Wendan Chen

4th Year Student

wchen053@uottawa.ca

Wenden is a fourth year student in the University of Ottawa’s Biochemistry Program.  She is performing functional genomic and proteomic screens to identify the cellular functions of yeast chromatin remodelers.
